Felix Auger won the Swiss indoors Basel and made it his 3 back to back ATP tournament victories.
Neither Auger-Aliassime nor Holger Rune had been broken on their way to the finals of the ATP 500 tournament in Switzerland, but the Canadian broke the Dane twice in the finals to win 6-3, 7-5, and claim his third straight ATP Tour title.
It was Auger-record-tying Aliassime’s 13th straight victory on the circuit. The 22-year-old moved up to sixth in the Pepperstone ATP Live Race to Turin after the one-hour and 40-minute victory.
The Canadian’s recent hot streak has placed him in excellent position to reach the Nitto ATP Finals for the first time in his career, surpassing Andrey Rublev in the process.
Now 725 points ahead of eighth-placed Taylor Fritz, Auger-Aliassime is certain to play in this week’s Rolex Paris Masters after finishing the season in seventh, the last spot to secure qualifying for the season finale.
A third player in 2022, Auger-Aliassime won an ATP Tour championship without losing a service game. In addition to their Eastbourne and Washington titles, Taylor Fritz and Nick Kyrgios have accomplished the same thing. Rune conceded that the Canadian’s serve was a major factor in his loss, and despite the setback, he will crack the Top 20 of the Pepperstone ATP Rankings on Monday.
