The DRX team, who were representing the LCK, were victorious on the last day of the Worlds 2022 quarterfinals, beating the team who had been champions of the world for the past year, Edward Gaming.

EDG jumped off to an early 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series, but the Korean squad was able to come back and sweep the series in the other direction. It is just the second time in the history of Worlds that a team has managed to sweep its opponents in the other direction, with Top Esports achieving the feat back in 2020.

In game five, everything boiled down to a single, decisive battle between Drakes. Hong “Pyosik” Chang-Viego hyeon’s and Kim “Zeka” Geon-Sylas woo’s led the foursome with confidence into the conflict, despite the fact that Hwang “Kingen” Seong-Fiora hoon’s had been eliminated only a few seconds before.

At the 36-minute mark, EDG took advantage of the 4v5 scenario and initiated the Ocean Drake in order to give themselves an opportunity to go to Soul Point. This prevented DRX from gaining temporary access to the Ocean Soul.

Pyosik monitored the situation from across the river in Harrowed Path’s as the rest of the EDG team concentrated on the Drake. After that, the undercover Viego player climbed into the pit and took the Drake from right under their eyes by smiting it while it had 377 health points remaining.

After successfully reclaiming the Ocean Soul, Pyosik and his crew engaged in a fierce battle with the rest of the EDG team in the river. After charging in and targeting Park “Viper’ Do-Aphelios, hyeon’s Zeka was forced to pop his Zhonya’s Hourglass in order to maintain his life.

Zeka would eventually come to the rescue after Viper and the rest of EDG had piled on top of Kim “Deft” Hyuk-Ezreal. kyu’s After coming out of stasis, the player controlling Sylas stole Akali’s ultimate from Lee “Scout” Ye-chan and used it to kill the player controlling Aphelios on the first charge.

When EDG’s primary source of damage was eliminated from the game, Zeka was able to narrow the gap on the other EDG players and win both the ace and the quadrakill. After the battle, DRX besieged the opposing base from the bot lane and won the match to take the overall series.
