Golf fans have been treated to a variety of exciting late-tournament dramas over the first three tournaments of the 2022-2023 PGA Tour season.
n the first month of competition, Max Homa and Tom Kim both won in dramatic fashion on the 72nd hole, and Mackenzie Hughes prevailed in a playoff to take the title. This week, the 2022 Zozo Championship will be held in Chiba, Japan, the same place in Japan where local boy and former champion Hideki Matsuyama won the title the previous year.
Matsuyama will attempt to successfully defend the title he won at the Zozo Championship last year. Although he is not the golfer who is now in the lead, he is currently placed towards the top of the odds board. That distinction belongs to Xander Schauffele, who won the Olympic gold medal two summers ago and just came off a good performance at the Presidents Cup. He is now competing in the United States, the country in which he won the Olympic gold medal.
The Zozo Championship has a limited field but does not use a cut, therefore in addition to Matsuyama and Schauffele, there are only 76 other players competing. Collin Morikawa, Cameron Young, and Viktor Hovland are all poised to make their season debuts in Japan, while Sungjae Im and Tom Kim return to Asia with the intention of keeping their momentum rolling. Collin Morikawa, Cameron Young, and Viktor Hovland are all prepared to make their season debuts in Japan.
There will be a diverse group of players competing for the Zozo Championship trophy on the final day, which will be held on Sunday. The competition will include a number of players who are members of the Japan Golf Tour Organization.
